Who I am....
I joined the Public Markets program at PPS in 2006 to help support the Diversifying Farmers Markets Grant Program. In addition to administering the grants program, I provided technical assistance to over 40 farmers markets from 22 states across the United States and worked to develop an effective communications and marketing campaign for the program.
Currently, I am working on a number of projects that are focused on the revitalization and creation of strong markets and market networks, including the Kaiser Permanente farmers market network project, a potential Boston Market District, and New York City’s Moore Street Market project. I also coordinates and develop course material for PPS’ “How to Create Successful Markets” training course held semi-annually in New York City.
Prior to PPS, I was the publicity associate at Greenmarket, the largest network of farmers markets in the country. For three market seasons I promoted over 40 farmers markets throughout the five boroughs of New York City. My days at Greenmarket were varied and included pitching the benefits of grass-fed meat to the media; designing flyers and postcards for markets; checking-in with market managers; handling market assignments for farmers, and strategizing with local community groups for the success of neighborhood markets. All the while, I juggled the needs of 175 farmers and hundreds of thousands of New York City customers. Before joining Greenmarket, I earned her farmer credentials as an apprentice on two certified organic farms. At The Farm School in western Massachusetts, I cultivated and harvested vegetables on 13 acres, and marketed produce through a 45-member CSA, a semiweekly farmers market in Boston’s Copley Square, and sold to over ten restaurants in the Boston/Cambridge area. In Tuscany at Tenuta di Spannocchia, I spent several weeks gardening and tending to a variety of heritage breed animals on the estate. I also ate my way through Rome, Florence, Siena, Assisi, and Bologna, finishing her travels in Venice for Carnival.
I also spent four years in Boston working and attending graduate school, and for one year I was a volunteer with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps/AmeriCorps in Oakland.
