This group was created to celebrate outdoor cafes! Cafes offer a place to sit down and relax, a place to see and be seen, a place to meet friends, and add a sense of life and excitement to any public space! So please enjoy and discuss!
I would use our "Place Evaluation" form and lead some small group exercises using it as a way to evaluate the of particular places, but also how to improve the given place. Then you will have benchmarks to go back to as the place improves.

What a nice article -- good for the NYT for helping to share this local story. Seems like Fleming embodied the essence of Jane Jacobs' "public character" -- someone whose presence and constant contact with the public helps to create social structu...

The New York city Subway on a Saturday late morning. I have always wanted to take all the people on one car and ask them who their grandparents were, where they were from and what they did. Hi Fred. All is good here, thanks. Happy to join the group as it will provide a focus for me thinking more about how these places work in Perth. Backyards are a big part of the culture in Australia and I think that's part of why people tend to use front yards very little. We have a family with young people who live next door who use their front yard as a play space and it means neighbours stop and chat, etc. It's great.
i thought the map would fool people into thinking i really knew what i was talking about. I'll search for something that represents my inner self...maybe a bottle of wine? I'll work on it.

Your post to this group is great. I may use it as a blog post for you!
Thanks Fred, I appreciate that. I didn't put up all my photos because they are on various CD's in storage. I have some great pics that I took of markets in India. I think that I combine my love of markets with just snapping pics, which I also really like to do. Thanks again for your kind words. Mike
