The Placemaking Movement

Our proposition is simple: we need a coalition of cities who are doing the right thing for the planet, while still improving their quality of life in many dimensions. In fact, changing the way we live – for the better, in our opinion – will be one of the major strategies to reduce our carbon emissions.

We envision a flexible working relationship with cities who want to join our campaign. Send PPS your contact information if you wish to work with us to achieve the following outcomes:

• Create more sustainable and livable communities with plans and policies that support community health, walkability, sense of place, and reduce the carbon footprint
• Create great destinations that attract people to a downtown, building the local economy, incubate new business, and involve the community
• Work with transportation officials to create livable streets
• Create and revitalize farmers markets and farm to market systems
• Integrate Transportation and Land Use for smart growth, less sprawling, more compact communities that reduce carbon emissions
• Use Transit Oriented Development and the creation of great neighborhoods around transit
• Enabling your grassroots– building the capacity of local citizens to start improvements in their own community

With your idea in mind (and inspired in the Chicago experience) we are thinking in preparing a presentation to the new authorities for our city, Ciudad Guayana.
We are just begining our colective holidays in PLanurbe but we expect to be back on work for January 12, 2009.
I will let you know about our work...
